New Boston Farm offers a summer day program in addition to the regular lesson schedule. Two week sessions are offered most seasons. Young riders spend the day at the barn learning about the responsibilities and joys of horse ownership. A formal lesson is offered in the morning and a fun ride each afternoon assures plenty of time in the saddle. The rest of the day is filled with 'hands on' experiences with our horses.
Participants learn to groom, bathe, clip and braid horses, as well as how to determine a horses vital signs, measure the height of a horse, bandage and wrap the legs and administer horse first aid. Feeding, deworming, and understanding shoeing is also part of the curriculum. In addition, students spend time cleaning tack and stalls -- a necessary part of stable life!
